About
OpenCut is a free, open-source video editor that bills itself as the open-source CapCut alternative. The web app ships today: drop in clips, arrange them on a multi-track timeline, preview in real time, and export without a watermark or subscription. The web app is TypeScript and Next.js; the project is being rewritten on top of a Rust core so the same codebase can target desktop and mobile next. The roadmap leans hard into openness — plugin-first architecture, an MCP server for AI agents, headless mode for batch render, and an in-editor scripting tab — so it's positioned less as a clone and more as an open video-editing platform.
